Clay tile

Clay tile is brittle and heavy. That being said, they are long lasting and very fire resistant.

Materials-Made of natural clay that is fired in a kiln.
Appearance-Traditional Italian or Spanish look. Clay tile can also be made to resemble slate or wood shakes.
Durability-Long lasting and low maintenance although brittle and can break.
Weight-Heavy.
Resistance-Fair to low wind resistance.Excellent fire resistance.
Price-Expensive.

Concrete tile

Concrete tile is less expensive compared to clay tiles. Just like clay tiles, concrete tiles are heavy but can be long lasting and are very fire resistant.

Materials-Made of a mixture of sand and cement.
Appearance-Can be made to resemble slate, wood shakes or clay tiles.
Durability-Long lasting, low maintenance but can break.
Weight-Heavy.
Resistance-Fair to low wind resistance.Excellent fire resistance.
Price-Moderate.

Slate

One of the oldest roofing materials, slate is very durable and resists both wind and fire. Slate is brittle and expensive, though.

Materials-Made from natural slate rock.
Appearance-Typically dark gray with irregular appearance.
Durability-Durable and long lasting.
Weight-Heavy.
Resistance-Good fire and wind resistance.
Price-Very expensive and requires specially trained workers to install.
